Techem 2021 Sustainability Report: Together towards a climate-neutral building stock

Eschborn, September 27, 2022. Together towards a climate-neutral building stock: With the Sustainability Report for fiscal year 2021, Techem, the service provider for green and sustainable buildings, provides detailed insights into its commitment to ecological, economic and social sustainability for the second time. The guiding goal here is to achieve climate neutrality for the Techem Group by 2045. Techem wants to follow this path together with its customers. To achieve this, the company is calling for far-reaching changes in the real estate industry that require a rapid rethink and new partnerships: first and foremost, the switch to low-CO2e solutions and comprehensive energy efficiency. With this mailing, we provide you with topic and discussion offers as well as background information.

Video: Techem’s contribution to achieving the 1.5-degree target

In a time of overlapping geopolitical and pandemic crises, climate change remains one of the greatest challenges of our time: achieving the 1.5-degree target is the central challenge here. That’s why fast action is required from all of us – with concrete measures and binding targets. CEO Matthias Hartmann explains in the video which goals Techem is pursuing.

Interview(offer): For climate and environment – decarbonization in existing buildings

The current energy and supply crisis highlights the relevance of energy efficiency and green solutions. At Techem, heat contracting is responsible for around 85 percent of CO2e-emissions, as many existing heating units are still operated with fossil fuels. To reduce its CO2e-footprint to zero by 2045, the company is working hand in hand with its customers. To this end, Techem has drawn up a decarbonization plan that describes the path to climate neutrality. What innovative heat supply solutions already exist for existing buildings and how can they be used sustainably? What economic efficiency do energy-efficient systems bring with them? How must the existing installations be changed in order to achieve the climate targets?

Gero Lücking and Holger Suschowk, Managing Directors of Techem Solutions GmbH, explain in a background discussion how Techem is driving decarbonization. Both are also available for an interview if you have any further questions.

Climate neutrality in existing buildings cannot be achieved alone. This is why, in addition to working with customers, Techem also relies on tech companies for visionary food for thought. The company uses so-called proof of concepts to test innovative digitalization approaches for the construction and real estate industry. Alexander Ubach-Utermöhl, Head of Strategic Business Development: “There is no blueprint for the new, digital and sustainable real estate industry.” He presents the challenges and possible solutions in an interview in the Sustainability Report. Want to learn more about the future of the real estate industry? We would be happy to arrange a personal meeting.

The content of the Sustainability Report is based on the ESG criteria (Environmental, Social, Governance).

Background information: For the climate and the environment

To meet the challenges of climate change, Techem is pulling two levers: On the one hand, the company is improving energy efficiency in buildings with digital solutions. On the other, the company avoids CO2e-emissions by using renewable energy sources. Two examples: As part of the renewal of contracts, Techem is pushing the switch to hybrid heating systems consisting of heat pumps and gas-fired peak-load boilers in existing buildings. In addition, intelligent control of heating systems can save 8 to 15 percent energy.

Background information: For the individual and the community

Techem wants to create a working environment in which employees receive the best possible training and further education, individual needs are taken into account and diversity is seen as an enrichment. The share of women in management positions of 24.7 percent, for example, is to be further increased with measures for the advancement of women and a women’s quota – 35 percent by 2025. Techem also worked together to increase customer satisfaction and develop new solutions for green and smart buildings with strong partners.

Background information: For ethical business conduct

Techem’s actions are based on a modern, value-oriented company culture and responsible corporate management and control geared to long-term value creation. These include fair competition, a transparent pricing policy and ethical conduct. Guidelines on corruption prevention, specific behavioral instructions and the introduction of an information security management system in accordance with ISO 27001 also contribute to the company’s positive development.
