For a climate-neutral building stock: Techem Solutions GmbH and BBK Real Estate GmbH establish a joint venture

Eschborn, July 20, 2023 – With the goal of “growth through decarbonization,” Techem Solutions GmbH and BBK Real Estate GmbH are jointly establishing the joint venture “Techem BBK Energie GmbH.” This combines the expertise of both companies with immediate effect, focusing on alternative heat supply concepts and the decarbonization of the building stock. 

Pioneering solutions for energy-efficient supply of real estate  
With Techem Solutions GmbH, Techem develops pioneering solutions for the cross-sector, energy-efficient supply of residential and commercial real estate – based on the digital infrastructure of Techem Energy Services GmbH. In order to drive the digital energy transition in the building sector, the company relies on integrative supply solutions, in the context of neighborhood concepts, for example. These include precise measurement technology to raise awareness of resource consumption among tenants, the optimization of heating systems using smart technology, and the provision of low-CO₂e solutions in heat contracting. Via intelligent metering systems and the smart meter gateway, Techem also enables property owners to gain full transparency over consumption in their homes. This is a prerequisite for flexibly adapting consumption to volatile power generation from renewable energies in the future and thus relieving the burden on the power grid. BBK Real Estate GmbH stands for the investor group Berg, Beck and Kegelmann. In addition to various investment companies, this comprises an extensive real estate portfolio consisting of 2,600 residential and around 150 commercial units at a total of 29 locations. Geographically, the properties of the investor group are concentrated in Schleswig-Holstein and the Rhine-Ruhr area, in particular.

Partnership for smart and sustainable buildings 
The newly founded company Techem BBK Energie GmbH has set itself the goal of sustainably developing the existing portfolio from a yield perspective, maintaining it over the long term and in this way contributing to a climate-neutral building stock. In addition to supplying electricity and heat to the existing properties, Techem also manages all metering points for gas, electricity and district heating with intelligent metering systems and smart meter gateways, as well as metering and billing services for heating and operating costs. Techem thus makes a key contribution to unlocking energy efficiency potential along the entire heating chain in existing buildings.

For example, intelligent control of heating systems alone can reduce the energy consumption of multi-family houses by an average of 15 percent¹, which creates scope for targeted investment in new, regenerative energy systems.
